 "Mulligan Guards" unveiling Sun. May 20,2012, 2-4 p.m. Exhibit runs through November 11, 2012. Free, suggested donations to the museum.
 
 In July, 1862 Illinois Gov. Richard Yates responded to Lincoln's call for more volunteers. The Rockford Mulligan Guards mustered in first as Company A, part of the 90th Illinois Volunteers Infantry in Chicago. They trained at Camp Douglas.
 
Opposite Photo depicts the Regimental Flag of the Irish Legion, another similar unit. The map follows the path of the Mulligan Guards during the Civil War. The Mulligan Guards' formation and service can be noted by reviewing photographs and Rockford Register articles in this gallery.

Irish customs have their root in the time when the Gaelic Culture and religion of the country were being suppressed. Perhaps due to that, the customs have survived into modern times.
